Good morning to everyone in our Connect! Unite! Act! Community, I thought I’d give you an update of some of the projects we’re working on. I spend most of my time at the moment thinking about how the Daily Kos community can do more — connect with more people, build a stronger activist network, and to turn our shared interest into an opportunity to connect leaders from all areas of advocacy with some of the people who can spread the word to their communities.
To help with that, and with the help of Neeta, we’ve been working on strengthening our Connect! Unite! Act! Community by helping to make those connections.
This past weekend, in response to the shooting in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, Tom Perez, chairman of the Democratic National Committee and Yasmine Taeb, a member of the DNC, but also an alumni of that High School — offered you their thoughts of what must come next on gun issues.
I wish, in every way that I can imagine, that this would not be the first entry to begin our connection with Daily Kos Guest Voices, but the need of the moment could not wait.
The Connect! Unite! Act! Community isn’t one solely built on hitting the pavement and building wins, but also about sharing our interests and friendship in order to develop the advocacy networks we need to talk to friends outside of the Daily Kos community and spread the important message of the work that will be required. Sometimes, that may bring in new commenters, new writers, and with that new perspectives.
As some have noticed, you’re going to see a lot more diaries from candidates, in almost every race. From State house to Governor. While they certainly may want you to contribute to their campaign, they also are very interested in sharing their stories about what is happening in their state, their community. Let’s face it, someone who lives in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia or South Dakota will be able to tell their story better than anyone else, because they live it.
Do you have a C!U!A! group in your state, or in your state capital? Or are you looking to build one? Do you have partnerships with other progressive groups in your state? Would you like to hear from a specific elected official in your state, whether that person is a state senator or a US senator? Feel free to comment here, tweet, or kosmail me.
Not all of the future Guest Voices will be politicians, some will be advocates. Some, will be living legends (at least to me) but all of them are interested in sharing with our community what drives them, what keeps them going, and the hopes they have for all of us. And that’s something worth talking about.
How about you? Who inspires YOU?
