I think it’s time for progressives to consider whether they want to continue spending their money at Amazon. The latest issue Amazon refuses to take a position on is its streaming platform for the NRA. While other businesses sever their ties with the NRA after the slaughter of innocents in Florida, Amazon refuses to comment. I was an early adopter of Amazon, making my first purchase in 1998. I hate shopping in stores and I loved the platform and its convenience, so I received Amazon deliveries probably 3-4 times a week. After the election, when SumofUs began a campaign encouraging companies to sever their ties with Breitbart, I emailed Jeff Bezos, telling him how much I loved Amazon and imploring him to do the right thing and sever ties with Breitbart. Well, like everyone else I didn’t hear a word from Jeff Bezos and to this day Amazon still embeds targeted advertising on Breitbart’s website. I have not purchased from Amazon since 1/2017, and I cancelled my Prime membership 6/2017, after waiting to see if their policies would change. At this point in time people have to decide how important the issues of corporate responsibility and convenience are to them. I guess for Jeff Bezos the decision is whether he wants to continue being the richest man in world and take money from everyone, or forgo the racists, bigots, pedophiles, woman-abusers, Neo-Nazis and promoters of assault weapons and be slightly less rich.
