I’ve been covering CPAC since 2007. Every year it has been held at either the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington DC (a gun free zone) or at the Gaylord Hotel at National Harbor (also a gun-free zone).
Every year, the NRA is one of CPAC’s biggest sponsors.
Every year, Wayne LaPierre or someone of similar stature at the NRA, takes the CPAC stage to complain about their oppressors, the Democrats.
Of course, in the aftermath of almost every mass shooting, Fox News and Brietbart and Alex Jones and talk radio raise the same ol’ tired bromide: that spree shootings always happen in gun-free zones because the bad guy knows he’ll be safe from “a good guy with a gun”. (They never bring up Vegas though).
Anyway, this year I decided to ask prominent CPAC attendees (and NRA extremists) how they felt about leaving their guns at home to enter a gun-free zone.
