Just over a week ago, this article appeared in one of Australia’s leading newspapers :
'Really extreme' global weather event leaves scientists aghast
It goes without saying that as far as I can tell, nothing like this article made it to any of the Rupert Murdoch controlled publications. For at least 13 years, possibly as far back as 1992, Murdoch has turned his media empire into a home for climate denialism writ large, a platform almost singularly focused to discredit the science, scientists & those making an effort to address climate change.
This is what the story was about :
Cape Morris Jesup, the world's most northerly land-based weather station, in Greenland, touched 6 degrees late on Saturday, about 35 degrees above normal for this time of year.
This is not a good thing — take the hottest day of the year in your area, noting this is in degrees Celcius, now add 35°C or 95°F.
The normal human body temperature can be as high as 37.7 °C (99.9 °F) in the late afternoon. Hyperthermia requires an elevation from the temperature that would otherwise be expected. Such elevations range from mild to extreme; body temperatures above 40 °C (104 °F) can be life-threatening.
35°C, 95°F is so far above the 1.5 degrees of warming they talked about limiting our climate change to at Paris, it seems we’ve managed to actually create conditions that if replicated, wont be good for anyone who doesn’t want their bodies to be put in a life threatening state.
At a temperature above 104 degrees Fahrenheit – 40 degrees Celsius – the enzymes that carry out photosynthesis lose their shape and functionality, and the photosynthetic rate declines rapidly.
Oh and plants don’t like it either…..
The above is the best I can do as a segueway to invite you to watch the latest Australian ABC documentary on real life Australians impacted by Climate Change — it’s an eye opener.
WEATHER ALERT — LINK
There are no politicians in tonight's story... Only people who've seen, from their own experience, that the change to our climate is under way.
KARL BRAGANZA: Were talking about predicting conditions that we've never seen before that's a test of our modelling capability for example...
Over the last few months Four Corners has travelled around the country to get a sense of that shift and to gauge how that shift is challenging almost every aspect of our lives.
MARTIN ROYDS: Yes we have 130 years of rainfall and temperature graphs
Since 1985 to now, the temperatures have been increasing .8 of a degree per decade.
So, in that thirty year period, it's gone up 2.4 degrees, maximum temperature.
If you have 45 minutes spare, I urge you to watch this. It is real stories, minus the politics, of people (particularly farmers) relaying what is happening on the ground, how they are affected by climate change. These stories would be happening all over the USA, but it is doubtful by now that there is a mainstream media company brave enough to seek them out.
Climate Change will only get worse & US & Australian politicians are not doing what they should to protect people from this danger.
ROSS BROWN: Tasmania's a good soil and we're finding that has been a good balance to have a cooling into our spectrum of climate.
And we still do grow grapes on the mainland. And there's grape varieties that thrive very well in the warmer climates.
But it's a matter of having the right grape in the right soil in the right location.
MICHAEL BRISSENDEN: What you're doing is predicated on a two degree rise. What happens if it goes beyond that?
ROSS BROWN: Well, we don't know where to go after that.. We don't know where to go after Tasmania because where do you stop?
