Kansas Secretary of State, and the man Donald Trump wanted to put in charge of voter suppression after his bang-up job with Crosscheck, finds himself in court this morning with the ACLU over ongoing voter suppression shenanigans.
It didn’t take long for the courtroom to get testy, as Kobach, in an apparent attempt to ambush the ACLU, sent documents at 10:45PM last night, giving no one time to review or even skim the documents, and the judge was having none of it:
The late night push of data along with Kobach’s unwillingness to expand the system was the push off the ACLU may have needed to note how out of control the SoS office has become: “This is the worst law in the nation”, they declared, and began making their case.
Kobach’ s case, which is predicated on assumptions — with no data — that thousands of immigrants are voting illegally — entitles him to a voter registration program that is known to disenfranchise tens of thousands of legitimate voters every year.
The case continues today and you can follow online via #ACLUvKobach.
At stake: your voting rights.
