Colorado Democratic Party
Turnout was up slightly from 2010 (the last time we didn’t have a Democratic incumbent for governor), and way up from 2014.
If the caucus goers are any indication, the governor’s race is between Cary Kennedy, former state treasurer, and Jared Polis, current Congressional representative. I’ve voted for him, but they redistricted me into Ed Perlmutter’s district, so I vote for Ed now.
I voted for Kennedy in the non-binding straw poll, as I think she is more focused on things that can be done in Colorado whereas Polis seems to still be thinking national; e.g., Polis wants “Medicare for All”, which is a national solution, while Kennedy advocates Colorado setting up a public option, which would really help provide choice, especially in rural Colorado. Both have solid liberal credentials with the occasional quibble, and we’re either going to elect the first openly gay governor of Colorado, or the first woman governor of Colorado.
Because the Republicans don’t stand a chance. The blue tsunami is building, and we can all feel it.
