My son, Charlie Mirsky, an 11th grader, is deeply involved with the #NeverAgain movement. Scott Beigel, who was killed in the shooting at Stoneman-Douglas, was Charlie’s 5th grade teacher. Charlie is also life-long friends with Cameron Kasky, who is one of the leaders of the movement. (Cameron, by the way, is just as poised and witty in private as he is in public.)
In any case, Charlie has spoken to various legislators and has really done a good job of catching their attention. He also has a knack for sound-bite that his old-man seems to lack.
In speaking before Cape Coral legislators, Charlie said:
“Despite all the public outcries for change, the only legislative work that has been done is to punish companies that have withdrawn benefits for NRA members,” Mirsky said. “Our governor has failed us, our Florida Legislature has failed to take action, so we come to you.”
It makes a dad proud.

P.S. He is so excited about the upcoming D.C. March, in part, because he’s going to meet Bernie Sanders. How wonderfully odd that all of teenagers are enthralled with a near-octogenarian!
P.P.S. Charlie has a twin brother, John, who is also a great kid and an amazing cellist. I’m proud of him, too!
