ABC News is reporting that the Republican Jewish Coalition has issued a statement calling for the resignations of a number of Democratic House members for what seems nothing more than exercising 1st Amendment freedoms:
The Republican Jewish Coalition is calling for the resignation of seven Democratic members of Congress whom it claims are "connected" to controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. The group describes him as a "known anti-Semite."
The lobbying group on Tuesday called for the following lawmakers to step down: Reps. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.; Barbara Lee, D-Calif.; Maxine Waters, D-Calif.; Danny Davis, D-Ill.; Andre Carson, D-Ind.; Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y.; and Al Green, D-Texas.

In the absence of evidence of anything illegal or unethical, or of any conspiracy to commit same, the mere fact of having ever talked to anyone whose views are “considered extreme” is now cause for resignation? Irony is indeed dead.
The Republican Jewish Coalition issued the following statement after Trump’s speech at the UN on 19 Sept. 2017:
Today’s speech at the UN was an historic moment for President Trump and the American people. The President’s speech set out a clear, unambiguous vision that America will always work in the best interests of its citizens and will always work with responsible countries around the globe to keep the world safe and secure. There is no greater example of this vision than President Trump’s commitments, reemphasized today, to confront the reckless nuclear aspirations of Iran and North Korea, to oppose the brutal regime of Syria, and to combat radical Islamic terrorism at home and abroad. The President was strong in his condemnation of Iran as a corrupt dictatorship, economically depleted, a destabilizing force in the Middle East, and a chief exporter of violence and terror. And, as he has many times before, the President called the Iran nuclear deal a terribly flawed and ineffective agreement.
Today’s speech was a strong affirmation of American leadership on the world stage, something that has been missing during the last eight years. The RJC applauds President Trump.
First Amendment freedoms are uncomfortable sometimes, but they are important. Whatever one thinks of Farakhan, I think it is unreasonable to expect that no one should ever talk with him or that any who do should be also shunned and condemned. By such an absurd standard I would think that a large portion of the Republican Congress should be first out the door for so enthusiastically supporting Trump.

I can’t say that I’m surprised that this diary turned out the way it did, given the decayed state of public discourse in this nation. It is rather disappointing to see it happen on this site, and on this diary in particular not only for obvious personal interest but because it deflected the discussion away from the topic I wished to discuss.
I shouldn’t need to elaborate on what that topic was intended to be, since after reading it again numerous times I maintain that I had made it clear what this diary was about the first time.
Apparently “shunned and condemned” wasn’t strong enough language for some, and their insistence that I express an opinion I had deliberately chosen to minimize brought more attention to a detestable philosophy and its chief promoter than that person merited in the context of the story.
I thank all who commented nonetheless, even my detractors or maybe especially those, for its always good to learn more about how people react to my writing.
I do pity the poor SOB who ever, or perhaps next, has to defend the NoI leader in court. Or any other “polarizing” figure, for that matter.
