I have read and loved many poets. As I’m sure, you have too.
When I look at most of the poets to whom I am drawn, inexorably; I realize that nearly all of them are people who have been deemed — Poet As Witness.
I am transfixed by them.
I am besieged and overwhelmed by them.
I am gripped by them in a way I cannot explain, or escape.
They have always lifted the cultural/social/political drapery, and disclosed the authenticity of what I see. And yet often, because we live in such a hasty world, have not felt that I had the wherewithal, or the clarity to articulate in the moment. That ability is a marvelous gift many poets have.
I have read the works of may such poets. As I’m sure, you have too.
I consider Claudia Rankine to be one such poet.

This is the Itzl Alert Network. (Itzl is the name of the dog in the picture.) We publish
a diary here every day, just before midnight. This group is here for us to check in with each other, to let people know we are alive, and doing OK.
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! If you would like to write a diary, let us know in a comment.
We would love it if you joined our list of writers. You can sometimes alternate with someone. New voices are always good for a group.

Of course, I think that what goes really well with poetical readings is Mac-Cheese.
I did not used to be fond of cheese, and then discovered Brie in my late thirties. I was late in arriving at Brie because I was not much of a consumer of cheese prior to that first encounter. In fact, until I turned 38, I rarely ate any cheese. And then a friend had brie in her party menu….
Cheese is something I still eat very sporadically. But this is a recipe one can consume once a year at the very least, with no guilt.
Brie and mac with more cheese.
