As the news flies at us at break-neck speed, it sometimes overwhelms us and we feel like we are not making much progress. But we are! Dems have swung many seats in districts where Trump won. And in the races where the Dems did not win, they still made great strides. We need to continue to focus on November and work as hard as we can in our areas to make sure as many people as possible come out to vote.
If you know someone who says “my one vote is not going to make a difference”, point then to Virginia. Some of those races were decided by a few votes for those state house races and now, because of all the seat flips, Medicaid expansion will be happening. That’s a big thing! If we take back the House and possibly the Senate, we can stop the Trump agenda in it’s tracks. Keep that in mind…. it’s worth all the hard work.
The big issue to concentrate on this spring and summer is pushing state houses and our Senators and Reps on gun legislation. Progress is being made. Florida has passed some restrictions, which is big since that state has been the laboratory for crazy gun laws and Utah actually rejected stand your ground laws. I feel like maybe the NRA is losing their grip on state house representative, those who answer more directly to their constituents than Senators. Maybe these folks are deciding that the NRA money is not more important than keeping their constituents safe. That’s just my feeling. I hope that’s where we’re heading.
