I was motivated to write this diary when I read tweets by both Mick Mulvaney and the POTUS calling outgoing Economic Adviser, Gary Cohn a “globalist.” This was not the first time that word or a different anti-Semitic phrase was used by the administration or the campaign. Although not the first time, it’s still just as shameful, and abhorrent.

According to Merriam-Webster, anti-Semitism is: hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group.
One group that fights, and raises awareness about anti-Semitism in the U.S. and around the world is the Anti-Defamation League, or ADL. Their mission is:
To stop the defamation of the Jewish people, and to secure justice and fair treatment to all...
an ADL audit on 2017, shows a very disturbing trend in the U.S.:
Some other key points in their 2017 audit include:
- Overall, incidents increased by 57% — the largest single-year increase on record and the second highest number reported since ADL started tracking incident data in the 1970s.
- Every single state in the U.S. reported at least one incident.
- Incidents at K-12 schools nearly doubled for the second year in a row. Incidents on college campuses increased as well.

These shocking results are in line with what we already know about the dramatic rise of hate speech and hate crime, coinciding with the campaign of Donald Trump. It’s what Hillary Clinton warned about in her August 2016 speech. Individuals and groups alike are emboldened by the racist and bigot who currently occupies the highest office in this country.
Anti-Semitism links with the Women’s March
At a February 2018 speech, Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, a known anti-Semite, once again included obvious anti-Semitic language in his speech. What made this year’s speech newsworthy was the revelation that Tamika Mallory, co-President of the group, Women’s March was present and shared her admiration of this well known anti-Semite. Unfortunately, it was not the first time she’s been present for one of his Saviour Day speeches.
The troublesome link between the speech, and several of the Women’s March Board of Directors is summarized in an article on Medium:
Or consider that in the audience at last weekend’s conference was Tamika Mallory, one of the leaders of the Women’s March, who got a special shout-out from Farrakhan and who regularly posts laudatory pictures of him on her Instagram account — as does Carmen Perez, another leader of the March. Linda Sarsour, another March organizer, spoke and participated at a Nation of Islam event in 2015. Her most notable response to his incendiary remarks this year was a glowing post on Perez’s Facebook page to praise Farrakhan’s youthful demeanor.
When asked about her association with Farrakhan, Perez refused to denounce his anti-Semitism and instead retorted: “There are no perfect leaders.”

It is my understanding that Tamika Mallory has since distanced herself a bit from Louis Farrakhan, but it is disturbing nonetheless that three members of the Board of Directors have had a long relationship, and share an admiration for Farrakhan.
I chose to highlight this recent news because it comes from what seems like an unlikely place — a leftist organization that claims to be:
“...committed to dismantling systems of oppression...”

It’s important to note that anti-Semitism is found across all socio-economic classes, political ideologies, races, and religions. It’s even found on this site. It is not solely the realm of white supremacists, Nazis, white nationalists or the far right.
In closing, I encourage all of you to question something if you’re unsure, and to call it out when you see it. In doing so you can help educate those that may not realize their words are hate words.
