Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Republican base:
This is a very disturbing video of a classless man threatening a female book store owner in her own store. What appears to really have got them riled up was the sign she was holding that neo-fascists are not welcome. (He calls her “anti-white”.) Revolution Books Inc. has actually been around long before Trump—opening three decades ago. They have taken a strong stand against Trump, which is fiercely patriotic but, as you can see, very dangerous to do.
Frequently, they have been the target of violence by Russian-bot fueled Trump supporters who are absolutely livid that a store is exercising their First Amendment right. It should go without saying that if you don’t like an establishment, you can boycott. But that is lost on today’s GOP, who equate protest with treason.
The man actually threatens to burn them down..
When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.
-Sinclair Lewis
What struck me is the cognitive dissonance:
- Two American Nazis threaten to burn her store down, and then complain that she wants to “burn books.”
- The man rants about “commies” and “Marxists,” but fails to realize the irony that the object of his fetish worships Putin and Russia.
- He gets right up in her face, and then immediately yells at her to get out of his face.
- He screams about freedom, and then immediately brags about attacking protestors.

I said this video is disturbing, but not for the reason you think. The truly disturbing factor here is that this is not an outlier. I’ve seen this exact same behavior at Trump rallies, including when he visited Orlando. I saw “white power” hand signs, heard obscenities and racial epithets, and observed boorish behavior.
This isn’t a video about a few bad apples. This is a video about the Nazification of the Republican party.
Trump’s open white supremacy and xenophobic hatred have opened the floodgates for trolls who for years were relegated to hiding under rocks. Now, we have Nazis and Klansmen openly mingling at GOP candidate rallies, complete with chanting and Heil Hitler salutes. Bigotry is practically a GOP platform.
So he we are.
The GOP stated it was too controversial to denounce neo-Nazis. Trump called them “good people”—right after they murdered an innocent girl.
This is why the video is less funny than it is disturbing. Every GOP victory is a victory for people like them. It’s why November 2018 is so critical for us to win.
