In the face of the looming constitutional crisis, each and every one of us should be weighing our response. Think carefully about this. Seriously, what are you going to do. Not just what you hope you will do, not what you wish you could do, what you want to do — but what will you do. How much are you willing to sacrifice. When Robert Mueller is fired — what will you do.
Speaker Paul Ryan and congressman Trey Gowdy along with senators Jeff Flake, Charles Grassley, Lindsey Graham, John McCain and Marco Rubio have all signaled support today for Mueller suggesting that some Republicans might take action should Trump fire the AG or the deputy AG and have his interm replacement dismiss Mueller. I applaud their stated intent, but none of us can count on any of them to do the right thing when the time comes.
This is a bit like running into a burning building or facing an active shooter or rushing to the aid of someone drowning in a flood or intervening to help the victim of a mugging or assault — we would all like to imagine ourselves acting heroically or at least doing the right thing. Trump likes to imagine that he would run to danger — but we all know otherwise. In all fairness, It is often easier to imagine how we would act than to actually act as we would imagine we should. So, if you haven’t been thinking about this — now might be a good time to consider your response.
Drumpf’s bumbling chaotic ineptly farcical sewer rat *residency has now become a mudflow — an inexorable inertially driven torrential mess — and it is about to run off a cliff. When the *resident attempts to dodge his looming come to jesus moment with Robert Mueller (by firing Mueller and ending his investigation), what will you do.
DJT has been laying the groundwork in preparation to fire Muller for months. In Trump’s fictional public narrative, Russia is a hoax (he says it over and over and over and over again, as if repetition would make it true). Trump tells us Russia is an excuse invented by Dems who can’t accept their failure to win the election. He shouts that the MSM who report otherwise — they are all fake news — all of them — populated by the most dishonest despicable people imaginable — none of whom can be trusted to tell the truth about Trump or Russia. Trump would have us believe that the courts and the FBI and DOJ are all suspect as well — corrupted by the infection of a cancerous cadre of entrenched deep state partisan Democrats — unable to do their jobs without prejudice and constantly conspiring to undermine him. Trump will argue that the partisan cancer in government has to be cut out because only the Trump Republicans working there can be trusted to see the truth about Trump and Russia.
In private, Trump knows he is running out of time and in deep deep trouble.
Drumpf has relentlessly taunted and demeaned the Attorney General for month after month, hoping that Jeff Sessions would eventually quit or retaliate in a way that might justify his dismissal. With his Mueller interview looming, Trump will soon have no choice but to fire his Attorney General, making that move appear more reasonable as a part of a broader reset of his entire cabinet — a strategy that includes firing Tillerson and letting Cohn and McMaster resign. While we wait to confirm a new AG, one by one Trump will fire Rod Rosenstein and any of the replacement acting AGs at DOJ who refuse to end the Mueller investigation. Until one of them is willing to heel to Trump’s will and stop Mueller.
The explanatory narrative is now set — the House Intelligence Community has ended their investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election — with the Republican committee leadership brazenly and most conveniently for the president declaring that ‘they found no evidence for collusion’ between Trump and Russia (of course you are unlikely to find what you don’t look for and we now have heard a claim that investigating Trump-Russia collusion wasn’t ever a part of the committee’s mission thehill.com/...). Andrew McCabe was fired to provide an example — to further the BS ‘biased partisan deep state conspiracy narrative’. Tillerson was fired and Gary Cohn was provoked to resign to make the upcoming Sessions firing look like part of a cabinet reset.
Drumpf has no way out. I see one and only one option remaining — his last remaining gambit is to cause a major distraction to buy him some time — that can most readily be created by dragging the nation into a full blown war (maybe in Korea, or the Middle East — it doesn't really matter where or why — he can fabricate a reason)— and once we are at war Drumpf will trust his party and his base supporters to rally round the flag and support the ‘commander in chief’ in the face of an external enemy. Seriously folks, he is gonna get people killed so he can hide for awhile longer.
A war might help Trump to put off the inevitable for a time and it would likely distract his supporters. But even war can’t save Donald Trump. We will all eventually learn what Mueller now knows — that Trump and his campaign willingly conspired with Russia, took Russian money and happily received and used hacked DNC emails, collaborated to weaponize stolen facebook profiles and micro targeted users social media to suppress the vote, to undermine his opponent and to promote the 3rd and 4th party candidates Jill Stein and Gary Johnson.
When the time comes, Trump still thinks he can sell a contrived war. The consequences are murky but blood and treasure will be spilled. The guy who believes he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Ave. and not lose a vote — seems destined to test that prediction on a far grander scale.
So when Mueller is fired, this is my plan, if only I have the courage to follow through. The moment Mueller is fired — I’m on leave from work — I’m in full tilt non stop all out march in the streets speed dial calling my congressman protest mode until either the president resigns or he is impeached or the senate intelligence committee hires Mueller to staff their investigation. I expect to exhaust my annual leave and sick leave — and at that point I hope I’ll have the self respect to keep up the protest as long as it takes.
When the storm that is coming finally arrives, what will you do ?
