People defending their continued use of Facebook seem to be relying on two points. One, they profit from using Facebook. This is a very bad argument. It’s the kind of thing we hear from people who sell guns to neonazis and insane people. The other argument we’re hearing from Facebook-addicted Americans is that they NEED it in order to stay connected to friends. This is very sad. Anyone who can’t quit Facebook because they wouldn’t be able to stay connected to friends should quit Facebook in order to heal themselves and fix their lives.
People made money in ethical ways before Facebook came along. And they also made friends.
Many of us never joined Facebook and are able to make money without relying on corrupt companies that destroy evidence of their crimes in delivering our election to Russian backed neonazis. Many of us never joined Facebook and somehow manage to maintain our relationships with friends (even friends who use Facebook).
It’s time for Americans to start doing the right thing and not using companies that are especially bad actors. Sure, every company on the Internet is probably trying to harvest your data.
But not every company on the Internet helped deliver the election to Trump and not every company on the Internet sent their team to London to try to cover it up.
Facebook should go out of business for what it’s done and what it hasn’t.
In a proper, healthy country with healthy citizens, they would no longer be in business. Sure, maybe Republicans are happy to contribute to the sickness that is Facebook in our society. But liberals no longer have any good excuses left.
People can be in denial about Facebook and create strawmen by pointing at Google. But it’s insincere and they know it.
We need a national intervention to get those addicted to Facebook off the crack. It seems they may not be able to do it themselves.
