Donald Trump’s defense, such as it was, for his “grab ‘em by the pussy” comments was that it was locker room talk, an excuse that had a lot of current and former athletes going “whoa whoa whoa, that is not how we talk in our locker rooms.” Now, former Vice President Joe Biden offers up some vintage locker room talk in calling Trump out on sexual assault at an anti-sexual assault rally at the University of Miami.
"A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, 'I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it,'" Biden said. "They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said 'no.' I said, 'If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.'"
"I've been in a lot of locker rooms my whole life," Biden continued. "I'm a pretty damn good athlete. Any guy that talked that way was usually the fattest, ugliest S.O.B. in the room."
Note that Biden is not saying he would like to engage in fisticuffs with Trump at their respective ages of 75 and 71, he is saying that had they been in high school together and he heard Trump running his mouth about sexually assaulting people as a habit, he would have beat the hell out of him. This is a distinction Trump predictably missed:
Look, if Trump and Biden fought right now, all Biden would have to do was run circles around Trump until he got so winded (approximately 30 seconds later) that he could be taken down with one punch while not having the energy to throw any punches himself. But that’s not what Biden was saying, and Trump is so easy to bait that he can’t even tell what he’s being baited about. He just charges blindly at the red flag.
Which is not to say Biden wasn’t also engaging in a wee bit of silly macho posturing himself.
