John M. Dowd, Esq., has quit as the head of Donald Trump’s team of lawyers assigned to respond to the Mueller investigation. The New York Times reported it here, www.nytimes.com/… . The Times reports the following:
Under Mr. Dowd’s leadership, Mr. Trump’s lawyers had advised him to cooperate with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, who is investigating Russia’s election interference and possible ties to Trump associates as well as whether the president obstructed the inquiry
The president has instead in recent days begun publicly assailing Mr. Mueller, a shift in tone that appears to be born of the president’s concern that the investigation is bearing down on him more directly. He has also privately insisted he should sit for an interview with the special counsel’s office, even though Mr. Dowd believed it was a bad idea.
Mr. Dowd, who had a distinguished record before signing on as Trump’s lawyer, authored the famous Dowd Report for Baseball Commissioner Bart Giamotti, recommending that Pete Rose be banned from organized baseball. In recent days Mr. Dowd has begun to embarrass himself by tweeting out statements that were obviously dictated by his client. Rose’s singular accomplishment is that he passed Ty Cobb in MLB hits; now Rose’s accuser is gone but Ty Cobb remains.
Significantly, as the above quote indicates, the NYT reports that an area of Dowd’s disagreement with his client is that Dowd has recommended that President Trump avoid at all costs an interview with Mueller’s team, but Trump has insisted that such an interview is a good idea.
Stay tuned.
