Former band member of the legendary Beatles and equally renowned in his own solo career, artist Sir Paul McCartney joined the March For Our Lives in New York City on Saturday. When approached by CNN, McCartney, wearing his “We Can Stop Gun Violence” t-shirt, said they were standing close to where his best friend and was shot to death. Here is the CNN video via Facebook.
CNN: What do you hope can be accomplished?
McCartney: We end gun violence.
CNN: Do you think that can happen at the legislative level? We’ve seen that happen at the state level in places like Florida and here in New York.
McCartney: You know, like everyone, I don’t know, but this is what we can do—and I’m here to do it. One of my best friends was killed in gun violence right around here, so it’s important to me.
Beatle mate John Lennon was shot down 38 years ago by Mark David Chapman in front of the Dakota, which was his residence in the Upper West Side. Lennon was 40 years old.
Rolling Stone reports that since Lennon’s death, over 1,000,000 Americans have died due to gun violence.
We can stop gun violence. Imagine.
