First off I am not a Doctor, so this is not medical advice!
In November of 17 GSK released a new shingles vaccine called Shingrix that is far better then the previous version made by a different company. I had ask my pharmacy in December if they had the new vaccine and they said not yet. I asked them if BC/BS would cover the cost and they said no it will cost $155.00 for each of the 2 shot needed. I decided to wait and see if BC/BS would catch up on paying for the new vaccine.
While at the store today I ask what the current status on billing was, even though I was willing to pay the full freight. It took the clerk some time digging but She said that BC/BS will now cover the cost except a $14 co-pay. Cool give me a shot.
I am over 50 years old and was willing to risk the discomfort part of shingles, but going blind and losing my hearing, possible death made this a simple choice.
I think that BC/BS is run differently in each state, but if your 50 or older it is worth checking into!
