The Decorah eagles are in the house! Well, not literally. I mean that this year’s crew has arrived. The first egg hatched on April 1st, second on April 2nd, and the third on April 4. You can watch them grow up on Raptor Research Project’s live stream at: https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/decorah-eagles.
Andy’s been a big fan of the Decorah eagles for years. In fact, they were his employers for a while!
Andy has been supplementing his income by babysitting for the Decorah eagles on the weekends.
It’s a great gig — except nobody warned him that when an eaglet preens itself...
… it’s not unusual for its head to suddenly disappear completely.
Horrified that an eaglet had been decapitated on his watch — and worried that it would be reflected in his tip — he fashioned a makeshift head out of a pinecone and hoped that nobody would notice.
You can imagine his relief when the pinecone rolled off and a normal head popped out. He now swears by the healing power of pinecones.
