OK, I admit it. I like getting my comments recommended.
That’s one reason I was lured into this fun diary series. There are friendly folks are here, who are generous with mojo. It’s addicting, I’m a bit OCD anyway, and having a long list of comments without a blank spot next to it appeals to the Mr. Monk in me. And it’s a sign that people like me, gosh darn it!
I am a Loyal Commenteer, and didn’t post a diary until well after my 10,000th comment. Others on this site produce wonderful writing; I tend to stick to my little one- or two-liners. They are simplistic and often juvenile, however. Getting words out through my fingers is tough, so brevity is the answer.
And all too often the words that come out through the keyboard don’t convey my message properly. Thank God for spell check and Google. (And where is that editable comment function, Kos?!) Yet still there is usually a person to Rec my most lame comment, here and out in the bigger blog beyond, and save me from having a void in the “★” column. It’s good to have friends and allies.
It wasn’t always that big a deal. When I first came here recognition was no big deal to me. I’d just flail away and jump into pie fights, mojo be damned. There was a 4 point rating system then, and people would often have a rating value in decimalized values, as others would rate at varying levels. Decisions, decisions…The switch to a binary choice was a wise move.
But for two years after that my only option to rate others was a horrid square recommend button before I became one of the magical “Trusted Users”. I awoke one day to a set of two round buttons, with that second “Troll” rate option (it was before the term was changed to “Hide”; now we’ve got the cute little flag that you should hardly ever use). My wife was sooo proud of my accomplishment!
Two years it took to get TU status. Two years…sheesh!
I feel it’s a duty to spread the mojo around, yet fairly and judicially. Recommend a diary, and be sure to give the author a tip…that’s how folks get their mojo built up. If there are several comments, I often rec them all, otherwise I might feel guilty of leaving someone out. I never miss reading the Letters to the Editor in the morning paper…and I keep looking for the Recommend button.
