Received this e-mail today from Randy “Ironstache” Bryce’s (D. WI-01) congressional campaign:
I've met and worked alongside countless immigrant families. They didn't want to uproot from their native country, but they felt they had no choice, no other way to provide a better future for their kids. They all work incredibly hard, they give back to their community, they create jobs and run small businesses.
They embody the American dream. And if our country provided them with any sort of real pathway to legal residency, I know they would jump through any number of hoops to do so -- but we don't.
Instead, Donald Trump and his buddy Paul Ryan have given more funding and more power to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which has a clear pattern of abusing its power to deport an increasing number of women, children, and asylum seekers with no criminal record. And when states and local law enforcement officials have stood up for their residents by enacting sanctuary laws, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has threatened to cut off all federal funding.
I don't believe local law enforcement should be asked to do ICE's job. My father is a retired cop and I know from his experiences how important police-community trust is. There is no reason why other parts of our federal government can't effectively carry out the necessary components of immigration and customs enforcement as they did 15 years ago before ICE was created in 2003.
Donald Trump has turned ICE into his own personal deportation force. They've terrorized too many families, for far too long. That's why I think it's time ICE was abolished. Do you agree?
Thank you,
Randy Bryce
