Hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans may have to bear witness to the new campaign ad for Republican House Representative Diane Black. She’s running for TN governor this year and the frightening ad jumps out of the local network news TV screens like an internet pop up—every night, multiple times a night, and it’s only April.
Local news is known to give its viewers some breaks and breathers in between bad news by adding sports, weather and frolicking banter. But Diane Black’s campaign ad destroys that plan, and for the average Democrat, those 31 seconds are no less than excruciating. There’s no way for me to stay remotely impartial about someone like Black. Among other things, she prides herself in serving Trump over the American people, she prides herself for the slogans like “Lady and the Trump” that appear on her website (right?), and she seems to pride herself in the way she lies, because she twists, exaggerates and manipulates words so often and so easily—especially about Planned Parenthood.
Here is the ad to judge for yourself.
Below is the transcript: It opens with that low male ferocious and cynical campaign voice we’ve grown to despise during election years.
Diane Black—Battling Planned Parenthood!
Diane Black: ”Why should we be giving paying taxpayer dollars to an organization that is breaking the law?
She Stands Up To The National Media!
Fighting For The TRUMP AGENDA!
Conservative Diane Black—She Fights For What’s Right!
There are so many things wrong with her ad it’s hard to know where to being and where to end. Getting more to the point, here is an example of one bill to which Diane Black gave a great big “Yay!”
HR 4712 - Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act - Key Vote
Excerpts:
· Defines a “child born alive” to include a fetus that has been removed from the uterus at any stage of development that exhibits a heartbeat, pulsation of the umbilical cord, breathing, or voluntary muscle movement (Sec. 2).
· Specifies that any action to intentionally cause the death of a “child born alive” can be legally prosecuted and is punishable as an act of homicide or attempted murder (Sec. 3).
· Specifies that an individual who undergoes an abortion that results in a “child born alive” can take civil action against the practitioner and is eligible to receive damages equal to 3 times the cost of the procedure...
· Requires anyone working at a medical facility that performs abortions to immediately report to law enforcement any knowledge of a violation of this bill, classifying a failure to do so as a criminal offense subject to no more than 5 years in prison (Sec. 3).
In other words: How to make legal abortion illegal—while it’s still legal.
As you can probably imagine, Black is offensive on many involving common decency. You can see more of her voting record here. As an aside, she lives in an $11.5 million dollar house just outside Nashville. Black, along with her husband had $78.6 million in taxable income from 2013 to 2016. The money keeps her in touch with the reality of the average American.
Last year, the Nashville Scene reported: By one calculation, Black is the 10th wealthiest member of Congress as of 2014, the last year for which filings are available, and has a net worth of up to $154 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. This may be why Trump loves the lady.
Speaking of ladies, there’s another GOP Congresswoman with a similar deficiency of values—Marsha Blackburn. She’s running for U.S. Senate. Take a glimpse at her campaign ad. It’s more polished than Diane Black’s ad, and more nauseating.
When I write about Blackburn, I refere to her as the ”lying, Trump-loving, wall-building, anti-choice nightmare who intends to fill Senator Corker’s seat.” Her video proves me right.
Diane Black and Marsha Blackburn need to be stopped and I look forward to seeing more writers, activists and the general public expose these women in articles, videos social media shares and memes. Suffice to say, I think they are traitors to their gender and more importantly—traitors to the people they are paid to serve.
Tennessee voters have their work cut out for them this November. If you know folks in the state, share the ads. Most Republicans will cheer or roll their eyes, but the ads will give Democrats all the more reason to show up at the polls for Midterm Elections. With the direction this country is moving, most will show up anyway, but the Black/Blackburn ads might inspire a good many more TN Democrats who normally might not vote, to show up—just to vote against these candidates.
Both of these congresswomen, regardless of gender and state, are out there making and passing laws—many laws that have proven not to be in the best interest of the people. That fact can be startling. The good news is—we have the power to stop them.
