It is not up on the MSNBC website, yet, but Holder made the announcement/admission on All In with Chris Hayes. Former Attorney General Eric Holder, currently working with former POTUS Obama to try to undo gerrymandering around the country, is considering a run for POTUS in 2020.
Not sure how I feel about this. I want persons of color to run in EVERY Democratic primary. I largely respect Holder (except for not prosecuting the Bush-era torturers for war crimes). I have no idea how to handicap his chances. Has he ever held elective office? Has anyone ever gone from U.S. Attorney General to POTUS without any interim steps? Would Holder be better suited to a federal judgeship or SCOTUS appointment? I have no answers to this, only questions.
However, I’d be willing to bet that if Holder does run, Obama would campaign for him. The only way he’d stay out of THAT primary is if Biden or former MA Gov. Deval Patrick (D) would also run.
