When Democratic Leader McCann Beatty filed articles of impeachment against Gov. Eric Greitens, she probably didn’t imagine an unusual ally — Republican leadership. In a new twist to the case of Eric Greitens vs. everyone else, Republican leadership inside of Jefferson City has decided to side with AG Josh Hawley against the Governor, calling for him to step down.
Campaign Action
Governor Greitens has refused to step aside, referring to the attacks as a witch hunt, and has encouraged his base to go after the presumptive Republican Senate nominee Josh Hawley.
Hawley, who knew of the case regarding the charity in 2016, has managed to bungle this case to the point where the statutue of limitations expires FRIDAY, meaning that if he cannot quickly file charges, he effectively drops a major case of corruption WHOOPS.
Desperate to make sure that Hawley doesn’t look like an out of touch, ineffective AG, Republicans are trying to do his work for him, by just ousting Greitens and calling it “all good”.
Greitens, however, remains intent on not resigning, and fighting all the way; which will continue to point out for the entire election season that AG Josh Hawley dropped the ball for over a year, letting Greitens walk away.

"A lot of arguing," said St. Rep. Steve Cookson of Poplar Bluff. "They're tearing our whole party and caucus apart," Cookson said referring to some Republicans who still support the Governor.
The investigative committee has published a report on alleged wrongdoing committed by Greitens in connection with an extramarital affair. He has admitted to the affair but denied wrongdoing connected to it.
Now the caucus is faced with a choice — side with Greitens or rescue Hawley. They are also aware that Hawley isn’t the only Republican candidate in the US Senate field, and should Greitens continue this war against him, the Republicans could lose their supposed DC hand-picked candidate in favor of a local with less support.
Senator Claire McCaskill has pointed out that Greitens knew — and nothing happened.
Republicans have finally turned to their “big gun” that’s right — President Trump’s staff has been called upon to end this crisis:

"I believe that there is one person who could get this soldier to stand down. He’s trained as a Navy SEAL," Sen. Rob Schaaf, R-St. Joseph, said on the Senate floor on Thursday. "He’s trained not to walk away from battle. But he is also trained to listen to his Commander-in-Chief. And I believe, that if you give him the order, if you tell him to stand down, Mr. President, I believe that he will. It’s worth a shot."
But in calling on Trump to intervene, Schaaf illustrated an interesting dilemma the president likely faces: not wanting to be rebuffed by Greitens, who has refused to resign despite calls from the upper echelons of Missouri politics.
Trump could also face questions about sexual misconduct allegations of his own if he were to publicly raise awareness about the situation in Missouri.
And now, Missouri Republicans stand off — Hawley or Greitens? Who gets saved? And is Trump the man to stop Greitens over sexual abuse and charity abuse scandals? Really??
