Zoom314 lives somewhere in the Mojave Desert in Southern California. When I hear those words, I think of Death Valley, Joshua trees and sandstorms. It’s not a place where a person would want to be without reliable transportation. Preferably with a working air conditioner. Hence, the main reason for this diary.
I don’t know about all of you readers out there, but I make lists. I make vacation lists. Grocery lists. “When I win the lottery” lists. By making lists, I am reinforcing the information into my subconscious (that’s what I tell myself, anyway). Zoom wrote a List of things I need fixed diary (feel free to check it out) but we wanted to focus on just a portion of those needs today.
“I can’t do anything if I don’t have my car”
To quote the person whose need this is for, “I do need to work on the car first. The CV boot that surrounds the drive shaft and keeps the shaft lubricated, is torn and needs replacement. Like yesterday. The shaft is making noises when I turn into a parking spot. Without my 1999 Ford Escort zx2 I’m dead in the water. I have a $270 estimate from American Tire Depot to fix that.”
He also needs to have the 3rd brake light replaced for $50 as he can’t reach there without breaking the pot metal seat frames. Also, he needs to get the rear drum brakes worked on as they squeak at times, cost min $100.
Total cost for car repairs: $420
“Did I mention he lives in the desert?”
Unfortunately, Zoom is also in need of some electrical and plumbing repairs for his home. He estimates that his electrical wiring problems can be repaired for $200. He has purchased the breakers needed to replace all the breakers so the cost is for labor only. Did I mention that one of the circuits is for his air conditioning unit? Hello! Summertime is headed our way. Zoom is also hoping to get an estimated $125 (labor only) in plumbing repairs done. Two toilet fill valves need replacing and the garbage disposal installed. All three items are bought and delivered.
Total cost for home repairs: $325
A very generous kossack has offered a $200 match which, if made, will cover the car repairs. That would leave the very important home repairs that need to be completed in order to be comfortable in his home this summer.
“What’s the elephant in the room?”
Zoom needs to replace his central heater or find an alternative heat source before next winter. Right now, it’s being estimated that it will cost $2000.
