I just got back from my high school 30th reunion weekend, and I am so full of feels. Six of us, all close friends, rented a house together from Friday night to Sunday morning. We needed more time! Wahhhh
Our first destination on Saturday was to “the crater”, a remote place in the woods that only avid outdoorsy students even knew about, and where the cool kids sometimes went to party. It was a natural geological formation that looked a bit like a meteor impact site, but was actually caused by glaciers or something.
We didn’t find the actual crater — it may well be gone, filled in either by tree stumps from nearby logging, or by school officials because they found out kids were drinking and smoking there. That would be funny, because even when it existed, “the crater” was just code for “let’s party literally anywhere in the woods.”
But this might have been the high-point of the weekend for me:
I’m the guy in the middle. Back in high school, I could not have played guitar with these friends of mine, who were already intimidatingly good. Although they were the ones who gave me my first lessons ever. The first song they taught me was Monkey and the Engineer.
So, being “in the band” during those 14 seconds recorded above satisfies a major life goal for me. I always just wanted to be good enough to jam with those two dudes. If only there had been a mic to drop! Please notice I am wearing my Netroots Nation Volunteer T-Shirt.
The official school dinner and official after-party that night was also wonderful. But it was just gravy, really.
