Included in that PR stunt from the Trump administration, the one that targets $7 billion from children's health are a few other health programs. That includes cutting $252 million from USAID's Ebola response funding left over from the 2015 epidemic. Cue 2018.
KINSHASA (Reuters) - Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed two cases of Ebola in the northwestern town of Bikoro and at least 10 more cases are suspected, the head of the national institute for biological research, Jean Jack Muyembe, said on Tuesday.
A source at the ministry of health also said two cases had been confirmed and added that there would be an official announcement about it later in the day.
As of now, that $252 million is frozen, under the law the White House is using for the rescissions package. Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control "is dramatically downsizing its epidemic prevention activities in 39 out of 49 countries because money is running out, U.S. government officials said." That $252 million might have just come in handy in the coming months. With luck, the large geographical mass of Congo will help contain this outbreak locally.
