Summer marks a turnover in entertainment — television seasons are coming to a close on the major networks, and blockbuster season is underway at the movie theater. In the music world, every year we hunt for the new “song of the summer”, and book releases also heat up. With students out of school, summer burns off some steam and gets people making use of their free time.
So, what is on tap for the week of May 18-May 25?
The big release this week is going to be Deadpool 2, the hard-R rated comic book movie that spends most of the film mocking other comic book movies.
From Youtube, the description for the film is:
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
While absolutely none of that is true, the film with jokes from the studio and actor at the genre itself is expected to be the top film at the box office, replacing Avengers Infinity War.
Also releasing this week in a bit of counter-programming is “Book Club”.
Also premiering this week, RBG, the documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which could break the top 10.

The real winner on television this week? Prepare for an outright avalanche of Royal Wedding television shows; with multiple networks offering behind the scenes views of the proceedings. With the wedding in the books, lots of networks are offering re-airings, behind the scenes and reviews.
HBO’s Westworld will continue to light up a lot of screens at home, while on Fox the Simpsons will conclude another record-breaking season, #29 is in the books.
For fans of CBS’s Madam Secretary, Sunday marks the fourth season finale.
This week in music
Chad Valley, Chvrches, Hoobastank, Jonathan Davis and Snow Patrol will all release new albums this week, as we start the summer push from record labels.
Book releases
Stephen King releases a new book “The Outsider”, and John McCain releases his book, “The Restless Wave”, and no, those titles aren’t flip-flopped. Both books have roughly the same description: “An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation.”
While King will focus on the happenings to an 11-year-old boy, McCain is expected to discuss what happened to his party, dislike of his once running mate Sarah Palin, and how confounding DC remains.
