#LastDance Music Monday
Having begun my journey on Daily Kos clear back in October of 2003, I’ve spent time writing for a number of groups; but in all of my time writing here, I’ve found this little family and new neighbors in the neighborhood, too, at Kitchen Table Kibitzing, to be my favorite.
Y’all are just so laid back and cool, in an outside the box kind of way; which meshes so well with my own brand of eccentricity, that I felt immediately welcome and a part of the gestalt here. For that, I thank each of you.
Because today will be my last entry, I’m turning in my keys at the end of the day. The father of my children, and my next door neighbor since our divorce in the late 1990s, is dying from a recently diagnosed metastatic, late stage IV cancer of the intestines, with no treatment or hopes of a remission. He chose to forego any therapy with a projected lifespan of “weeks to months”. This news has, understandably, thrown my two adult children into the maelstrom of one of life’s more heinous moments and they are leaning on me for help in a situation I never thought I’d have to face. How to help them prepare to lose their father.
Even just a few hours to post and shepherd a weekly column is just more than I can spare now. So I’ll be saying, “goodnight” but not farewell. You’ll see me in the comments from time to time and sometime around Thanksgiving I’ll likely be back in force here at the Orange Clubhouse. But until then?
When you get a chance? DANCE you crazy, lovely folk, dance till you can’t. Because the music never dies, it just fades off in the distance, where some other dancers are waiting for the band to strike up a tune…
Ronan Keating says it beautifully here, with I Hope You Dance
Lyrics & Credit (full lyrics at the link):
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance ...
