'Poverty, gender bias, conflict threaten 1.2 billion children'

More than half of the world's children are at risk due to conflict, poverty or gender discrimination, according to an international charity.
In a report published on Wednesday, UK-based Save the Children said at least 1.2 billion minors face one of these threats, with 153 million facing all three.
UAE rights activist Ahmed Mansoor sentenced to 10 years in prison

An Abu Dhabi court has handed Emirati human rights activist Ahmed Mansoor a 10-year jail sentence for using his social media accounts to publish "false information" and "spread hatred and sectarianism".
According to Amnesty International, prior to his arrest, Mansoor faced "repeated intimidation, harassment, physical assault, and death threats from the UAE authorities or their supporters."

World's longest flight to be launched by Singapore Airlines

The world’s longest commercial flight will be launched in October, Singapore Airlines has announced.
Passengers will fly non-stop between New York and Singapore, covering a distance of around 9,500 miles.
New Airbus A35-900ULR (ultra long range) aircraft will be used for the flights lasting up to 18 hours and 45 minutes. They will be configured with 94 premium economy seats and 67 business class seats.

Knowing how unreliable the trains can be, Agarwal planned his trip so he would reach the city a full day early. But the Patna-Kota express train was two days late, so he missed his exam. On prime time television, filmed by news channel NDTV, he was shown weeping over his three wasted years of study.

Yellowstone River to get new trails under oil spill deal

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — New trails, fishing sites and other recreational features will be built along Montana's Yellowstone River as compensation for damage from an Exxon Mobil Corp. pipeline spill, under a plan approved Wednesday by the governor.
The 63,000 gallon (238,474 liter) oil spill in 2011 near Laurel damaged thousands of acres along an 85-mile stretch of the famous waterway and required a months-long cleanup.
