Some years ago president Obama said he might visit with Castro in Cuba and the leadership of Iran and Kim in N. Korea. The Republicans criticized him no end. He visited Castro and the world did not shake. He worked with other nations to get a nuclear deal with Iran and it was good. But, the Republicans hated it every step and finally exited the deal.
Today President Trump met with the most brutal murderous dictator in the world, Chairman Kim or North Korea, and the Republicans are proud of their leader.
It’s a strange world, but the Republicans show their hypocrisy time and again. Could you imagine how brutal they would have been towards Pres. Obama if he had met with Chairman Kim?
When Pres. Obama spoke with newly inaugurated Pres. Trump he advised that North Korea would be the most important thing he would have on his plate. The policy of establishing better relations with N. Korea began decades ago and the latest plan began with Pres. Obama. No Republican would accept that and applaud an Obama plan. They can’t see foreign policy as being bi-partisan. They can’t accept Democrats on any terms. They are traitors to the American ideal of a people unified under the Values defined in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
Yet, we must applaud each step forward in establishing better relations with N. Korea or other belligerent nations. I would hope that Iran can continue its treaty with the other nations which signed onto it and that some future U.S. Congress could agree to turn that into a U.S. Treaty too. We can’t expect that with the current Republican Congressional leadership.
We need new Congressional leadership in both the House and the Senate. We need a blue wave to replace the Senate Majority Leader McConnell and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Ryan.
