I happened to be awake when Trump’s North Korea news conference was starting. His prepared remarks and his answers to questions has been typical Trump: outrages, nonsensical, embarrassing, funny at times for the wrong reasons, enraging, etc.
Eh… I may have become numb to the schtick.
Supposedly North Korea has agreed to denuclearization and in return the United States will no longer hold war-games on the peninsula, among other things. Considering the United States invaded Libya after al-Gadaffi gave up their nukes, I never thought the North Koreans would agree to denuclearization. If they have, though, then this is a great outcome for Trump’s farcical summit. Also, Kim is dumber than he looks. And yes this is a farce: Rodman is on my television at 1 am and Trump didn’t even prepare. What a pathetic joke.
It goes without saying that a decrease in nuclear weapons is beneficial to all of humanity. Also, it really would be for the best if the war games did end. They are unnecessarily provocative toward a nuclear-armed nation. It’s that simple. There have been several instances where the United States and Russia have nearly gone to war with nukes as a result of human error. Decreasing the chance of war in general and the use of nuclear weapons is encouraging and the right thing to do.
Am I supposed to give Trump credit for this, though? The man was sort of the right-wing, authoritarian spark to all this. Recall the crazy rhetoric and ad hominem attacks he used when tensions were highest with North Korea? At one time I actually started thinking the neoconservatives were about to convince Trump to go to war with NK. It was around that time that both Korea’s began communicating. I believe the Koreas saw they needed to make amends for themselves, and create their own future as opposed to letting the empire invade North Korea again and perhaps bring apocalypse to the peninsula. But who knows?
Big picture view of this all: the unnecessary tensions that have raged between the United States and North Korea have been vastly decreased. And it would truly be a godsend to humanity if North Korea got rid of their nuclear program and this was verifiable by an international organization.
Another positive outcome is that chances the neoconservatives and their liberal-interventionists sidekicks will invade North Korea have decreased dramatically. Those two bands of invade-happy fools are dangerous.
Trump has been president for 17 months and this won’t improve my view of him. The greatest ConMan in history continues to deny the truth of the destruction of the climate. By doing so, he is damning my grandchildren to a terrible future so to hell with Trump. Additionally, his failed right-wing economic policies will unfortunately probably doom us soon enough to another Republican-led recession. So just because the man-child might have unwittingly contributed to creation of a good thing doesn’t mean I begin to forget the damage he’s done.
