Laura Bush has gone on record saying that separating children from parents is “immoral” and brother-in-law Jeb concurs.
It’s good of Jeb to weigh in on the correct side of the argument, but there’s an inference that Congress is somehow to blame for the current stain upon the character of this nation, rather than the blame being put where it belongs, squarely on the shoulders of Donald Trump. It won’t surprise you that Melania, who says she “hates to see” families separated is basically singing the same tune. Los Angeles Times:
Though the statement suggested that the matter was an issue for Congress, Democratic lawmakers and others have pointed out that no law mandates the separation of children and parents at the border. A new Trump administration policy, which went into effect in May, sought to maximize criminal prosecutions of people caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally. More adults were being jailed as a result, which led to their children being separated from them.
First Lady Melania Trump "hates" to see families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border and hopes "both sides of the aisle" can reform the nation's immigration laws, according to a statement from her office.
Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the first lady, said Sunday: "She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart." She said the first lady hopes both sides "can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform."
Trump can reverse this situation with a stroke of a pen. From his openly hostile early morning tweets, it doesn’t appear that that is likely to occur.
Our good neighbor to the south is long since fed up with Trump’s vitriolic racism directed right at Mexico. Mexico made a decision last fall to buy 100% of her corn, rice, wheat and soy from Argentina, duty free, at a cost of $13Billion a year to American farmers. They also rescinded their offer of aid to Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. That was the first time that the American and Mexican peoples did not work together collectively in the face of a natural disaster, but it was completely understandable not just because Mexico was struck by Hurricane Katia and a major earthquake in Mexico City, but due to the unremitting insults directed at Mexico since the election of Trump, including just this morning.
America first is really America alone and MAGA is Misery And Gestapo Actions.
