It is hard for me to pick the one job that a person can have, that I have the most respect for.
There are several positions that I have a great amount of respect for. Often people that go into the jobs have to deal with a lot of stress for little money, and sometimes lack of respect for the job that they do as others in the profession give them a bad name.
But here are my thoughts.
As a former professor and student I know first-hand the amount of work...for little pay...that teachers have to put up with. Many teachers that I know got into the profession for a love of learning. But having to deal with a situation in which they are under-appreciated and over-worked some have become jaded and end up being tired of the environment forced upon them.
I also believe that there are good (Just as in any profession there are good and bad folks in it) police officers. For those that are good, who have to put up with the bad officers….who have to put themselves at times at high risk situations I know I could not handle the stress.
Also spending most weeks in either multiple doctor appointments and hospitalizations I realize how stressful the life of a nurse is. Having to deal with the whole bureaucracy of the medical establishment, deal with the multiple personalities of MDs, well at the same time trying to ease the suffering and pain of patients who at time make their lives a living hell, I have great respect for nurses.
But for me the most respect that I have for a position is a veterinarian. Having to see the extent of cruelty that some people can inflict on another living being would be heartbreaking to me. The amount of care and compassion that I’ve seen from veterinarians has been over the top.
So.. how about you? Is there a profession that you have the utmost respect for?
