We often refer to Independence Day on the Fourth of July as a holiday.
But it is not. It’s a day of remembrance, to remind ourselves and our progeny that our Liberty, our Freedom, is not free. That it comes at a price and many of us know someone who has paid that price.
If you honor their sacrifices, then you must do what you can to ensure that this nation shall never perish from the Earth, as a citizen it’s your duty.
So enjoy the Fireworks and your friends and family, take the day off from politics.
But get your asses back on the job on July 5th — because with the despot who is the sitting President of the United States, there’s some question of whether or not we’ll be having this “holiday” again next year.
Twitter had a lovely time today with #secondcivilwarletters and it reminded me of what this day is truly supposed to mean. Not just a day to enjoy your freedom, but one to remind you that someday you or yours may have to answer the Call to defend the Republic — and this time around, luckily for us, that call is to Register voters and get them to the polls this year in record numbers.
You can do your part easy enough.
Contact at least ONE PERSON whom you know never votes. Call them, visit them, badger and/or cajole them. Do what it takes to get them registered (super easy at Vote.gov or RockTheVote.org) and then make sure they get to the Polls in November.
Remember — 1 out of 3 people NEVER vote and never have, not since at least 1915, and that’s just the presidential election years. The mid-terms are WORSE by far:
Have a Safe and Happy Fourth of July, and to start off the happy part here are some of the #secondcivilwarletters:
I missed this one earlier today and it’s perfect, in every way:
