Donald Trump’s administration kidnapped migrant children from their parents with no plan set in place on how or when to reunite them with their families. Even a former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official warned that some separations could become permanent, a warning that could become a reality for some children:
Yet it was just days ago when Health and Human Services (HHS) Sec. Alex Azar told the Senate Finance Committee that “there is no reason why any parent would not know where their child is located … I could at the stroke of keystrokes … within seconds could find any child within our care for any parent.”
Oh, there’s a reason all right “why any parent would not know where their child is located,” and it’s because of this cluster fuck that is the Trump administration. "When I was in the federal prison,” said Congress member Pramila Jayapal, who has visited with detained parents in Washington state, “I saw a slip of paper that a mother handed to me that had her name, her identification number, and then supposedly her kids, except she said, 'These are not my children.'”
“Just got off the phone with HHS,” tweeted U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal last week. “I am furious and horrified after immigration conference call—virtually no separated children have been reunified; no system, no plan, no path to assure reunification; no answers to key questions. Strategy seems to be: blame everyone else.”
