On Friday, during his current european travels, tRump took a moment from London to tweet out his endorsement of first term Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz. en.wikipedia.org/… Seemed a bit off topic, but not completely unreasonable for tRump since Gaetz is one of his most ardent and outspoken supporters in the House. thehill.com/...
"Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida is one of the finest and most talented people in Congress," Trump wrote. "Strong on Crime, the Border, Illegal Immigration, the 2nd Amendment, our great Military & Vets, Matt worked tirelessly on helping to get our Massive Tax Cuts. He has my Full Endorsement!
Might be one of tRumps more forgettable tweets, until we also get the announcement yesterday by Rod Rosenstein of 12 indictments of Russian GRU cyber warfare officers charged with hacking the 2016 election.
The indictments also appear to implicate Roger Stone and Stone has already admitted a certain level of involvement with Guccifer 2.0, one of the online personas used by the Russian cyber warfare officers
One part of the indictments involves solicitation of stolen documents by an unnamed Florida congressional campaign.
The indictment is vague concerning the unnamed congressional campaign, saying only: “On or about August 15, 2016, the Conspirators, posing as Guccifer 2.0, received a request for stolen documents from a candidate for U.S. Congress. The Conspirators responded using the Guccifer 2.0 persona and sent the candidate stolen documents related to the candidate's opponent.”
That prompts speculation as to whose campaign might have solicited stolen/hacked documents from Guccifer 2.0 —- who were in contact with Roger Stone.
Roger Stone also has a relationship with Matt Gaetz.
Matt Gaetz was a successful first time Florida congressional candidate in 2016.
Matt Gaetz is a tRump stalwart — highly critical of the Mueller investigation.
Rod Rosenstein briefed the pResident on the indictments of 12 Russian GRU cyber warfare officers before the current overseas trip. Seems like that briefing for the pResident would have provided the name of the Florida congressional campaign implicated in the solicitation of stolen documents from Guccifer 2.0.
So, maybe tRumps seemingly ‘out of left field’ tweet endorsing Congressman Gaetz is a coincidence — or maybe tRump has tipped his hand and has revealed Gaetz’s involvement.
The identities of the various US actors implicated in this sorry mess will eventually be made public — but based on the timing of the pResident’s otherwise odd tweet endorsing Gaetz — my bet is that Congressman Matt Gaetz is implicated. Only good news for Mr. Gaetz is that he takes a halfway decent mugshot.
