The hypocrisy of Texas Republican congressman Will Hurd is astounding. Hurd wrote an opinion in the New York Times this week, touting his former CIA credentials and slamming Donald Trump.
Where was this for the last two years, when Hurd was enabling Trump and Nunes?
Tough talk from Hurd, right? Right up until his revisionist opinion piece, Will Hurd has been a reliable vote for Donald Trump and Devin Nunes. Hurd has voted with Trump a whopping 95% of the time.
When Hurd had a chance to allow the DOJ and FBI the access needed to review the Nunes memo, before its release, he voted NO. When he had a chance to support the release of the Democratic rebuttal memo, once again he sided with Nunes, and voted NO.
This is just another reason why Hurd’s opinion piece in the Times is completely meaningless. When a committee vote came up to subpoena the Helsinki translator, Hurd was ABSENT—and this happened one day before his Trump tough talk opinion piece was released.
Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have blocked a move to subpoena the American translator from the Helsinki summit to testify about the private talks between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The panel's top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, said Thursday he wanted the translator, who works for the State Department, to appear in closed session, saying Congress must "find out what was said" during the two-hour meeting.
"It is incumbent on us, given what the president said publicly that was of such great concern to our country, to our NATO allies, that we find out what was said privately," Schiff said.
Are you wondering why Hurd’s talking tough on Trump now?
Hurd is vulnerable in TX-23.
Hurd is up against former USAF veteran Gina Ortiz Jones, and according to the latest Cook Political Report, this district in Texas is listed as lean Republican.
Ortiz Jones has a real shot here and Hurd’s faux opinion piece proves it.
Roughly four months out from mid-terms, Hurd is getting tough. You’ll see this from many Trump-enabling Republicans in tough races. Don’t buy the lies. Hurd has been in the Trump/Nunes camp the entire time. An opinion piece written four months before midterms, revising Hurd’s voting record, does not absolve him from enabling Trump and Nunes.
Beto O’Rourke fever has blossomed in Texas. You better believe loyal Trump Republicans, just like Will Hurd, are well aware of what’s going on in the Lonestar State. The more enthusiasm, the more voters will participate in November, and the chances of formidable candidates like Gina Ortiz Jones winning increase dramatically.
This is why Gina Ortiz Jones is running.
Why I'm Running
My mother came to the United States 40 years ago, because of her belief in the unique promise of America.
As a single-mother, she worked two jobs at times to ensure that my sister and I could achieve the opportunities that only this country could provide.
I grew up knowing hard work, not circumstances to which we were born, should determine our trajectory. This promise is currently under threat, but I still believe we can be a country whose actions match our highest ideals.
That's a country equally focused on creating good well-paying jobs, while strengthening our middle class.
That's a country that is focused on providing quality healthcare to all, while still ensuring we lead the industrialized world in medical breakthroughs.
That's a country that embraces our immigrant history and our collective responsibility to ensure that the American Dream remains a possibility for all that dare to achieve it.
That's a country that understands our exceptional role in this world, yet understands that our exceptionalism is rooted in the opportunities we afford for the most vulnerable amongst us to become our most promising.
Our state and our country are worth fighting for. It's why I joined the military, it's why I served in Iraq, it's why I've dedicated my life to public service, and it's why I'm running to serve Texas' 23rd Congressional District.
I look forward to fighting alongside you.
Let’s make sure we get her elected. Gina’s website is here.
