What is there to even say about the news that Donald Trump spends some of his Oval Office time showing visitors his own rally performances?
Trump commentates as he watches, according to sources who've sat with him and viewed replays on his TiVo, which is pre-loaded with his favorites on the large TV in the private dining room adjoining the Oval Office. When watching replays, Trump will interject commentary, reveling in his most controversial lines. "Wait for it. ... See what I did there?" he'll say.
Axios reports, of course, that "instead of looking for weaknesses in technique or for places to improve, Trump luxuriates in the moments he believes are evidence of his brilliance."
Well, yes. That's what narcissism is. Narcissists don't believe they have weaknesses; if you don't think they're the best thing on this green earth, then that just shows how inferior you are.
Once again, this is such odd, befuddling, childish behavior that it's difficult to imagine any other president doing it. If reports came out that Barack Obama or George W. Bush were obsessively watching their own old debates and campaign rallies, over and over and over, they press would openly wonder if they had a few screws loose. Trump, however, has no screws. He is screwless. There are no more fasteners left to come undone.
If anything, his staff is probably grateful he spends so much time parked in front of the TV-mirror, because it means there's less time for him to foul up his day job.
