Like Donald Trump, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a political outsider who won a race virtually no one thought she could win.
Aaaaannnnd … that’s where the similarities end.
While she’s stumbled a few times during her short political career, she hasn’t come close to embarrassing herself in any of the myriad ways Trump has. There’s just no comparison. For one thing, she’s not the president of the United States. For another, she’s not a 72-year-old with access to an army of advisers and the most sophisticated intelligence apparatus in the world who nevertheless gets the bulk of his information from Brian Kilmeade.
And now, of course, Republicans are obsessed with her.
Why? Because for today’s garden-variety, off-the-rails frothing Republican, projection is no longer just for Leni Riefenstahl movies.
Also, they’re desperately hoping to paint the entire Democratic Party with this one thin brush. You see, if they can define Ocasio-Cortez on their own terms and then hold up that caricature as a straw man, they can not only take some of the shine off a rising Democratic star, they can also draw attention away from the flaming bag of poo they left on the Oval Office carpet 18 months ago.
Now Donald Trump Jr., the tertiary shit stain on the bottom of our collective boot, is getting in on the action, calling out Ocasio-Cortez over a portion of her recent interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
Watch the embedded clip for yourself to see just how terrible this really is compared to, I don’t know, having no clue what the nuclear triad is, or accusing a former friend of begging to get into Mar-a-Lago while gushing blood from her face:
Okay, not great, but hardly up to Trump standards.
And while trotting out every Trump malapropism, clueless assertion, and outright fabrication would require me to upgrade from my MacBook to a $15 million D-Wave quantum supercomputer that does nothing but catalogue Trump gaffes and run Flying Toasters, it is possible to compare the (28-year-old) Ocasio-Cortez with the (old enough to know better) Donald Trump when it comes to one of our country’s most urgent issues: health care.
Below is another clip from the same CNN interview that gave Donald Trump Jr. such a tumescent rage boner.
Ocasio-Cortez’s argument in favor of Medicare-for-all is pretty simple, and she presents it with passion and, more importantly, compassion (i.e., it would be cheaper than our current system, every other developed nation in the world has a viable universal health care system, and we could easily follow their lead if we focused more on the welfare of our citizens and less on endless wars and upper-class tax cuts):
Meanwhile, what wisdom has Trump offered on health care?
Lies about — and then a full flip-flop on — coverage for preexisting conditions.
A howler of a lie about how his health care plan would cover everyone in the country.
A total lack of understanding about what Obamacare actually is.
A bold and stunning proclamation that health insurance costs $12 a year.
So who’s the joke, really?
Donny Jr., I would say keep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s name out your filthy mouth, but I’m pretty sure you can’t pronounce it anyway.
