Hawaii goes to the polls today for its party primaries. Gov. David Ige faces a serious Democratic primary challenge from Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, while there’s a crowded Democratic primary to succeed Hanabusa in the safely blue 1st Congressional District. You can find more about each race in our preview here.
Polls close at 6 PM local time on Saturday, which is midnight eastern standard time. The first wave of results (known as printouts) usually come in an hour after polls closed, with additional waves coming hourly. We won’t be liveblogging this one, but we’ll be back Tuesday for our liveblog of the primaries in Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

HI-Gov (D): The promised mega-drop of ballots just happened, with presumably around 50-75% of the total vote already in. And it looks like incumbent Democratic Gov. David Ige has turned back the very strong challenge of Rep. Colleen Hanabusa. With nearly 108,000 votes tallied, Ige holds a 51-45 lead over Hanabusa.

HI-01 (D): Ed Case rides again, apparently. The former congressman looks to be a betting favorite to return to the Hill. With that (massive) early vote tabulated, he leads a crowded field with 43 percent of the vote, well ahead of Doug Chin (26 percent) and Donna Mercado Kim (18 percent).

HI-02 (D): Meanwhile, the safest bet of the three closely-watched Democratic races is a mortal lock, no matter what the balance of the returns show. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has a commanding lead over the field in this primary, lapping the field with 84 percent of the vote.
