Welcome, welcome, welcome!
Sorry...had to send the Cafe out for crumb removal...at least we got to keep the lights on!
I am guessing that everyone knows about Old Bay, by now.
It’s my go-to seafood spice and I’ve even used it on/in other recipes.
What I didn’t know until yesterday, is that it has a rich history!
Born in 1893 in southern Germany, Gustav Brunn worked in Europe as a spice merchant. In 1938, he fled Nazi Germany and came to Baltimore with his wife.
Brunn tweaked the basic recipe that many spice sellers already used.
They eventually used the name of a local steamship line: Old Bay.
Never, ever, ever try to make crab cakes without it.
You will be mocked mercilessly and your children will claim not to know you.
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. On Sunday we go to the C!U!A! posting to show support for all the work for November’s elections. Please to join us there, as well.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
New Day Cafe is an open thread,
so pull up a coffee and have a chair!
