When I got home from New Orleans, among the pile of mail on my living room floor (I have a mail slot in my front door) was a bill from the Neptune Society for $50 due on August 10. According to the online payment system they use, my next required payment was due on May 10, 2021; and I had the money for the payoff last Wednesday. I did call in on the 8th and ask what was up with this — the answer was that it was automatically generated (I tend to confuse their computers) and the woman I talked to would make a note in my file that there was no problem.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Nobody knows what these are for, but there are lots of interesting ideas.
A complete set of Roman horseshoes.
Sandboarding in Colorado.
Brazil is having problems with Venezuelan refugees. Anybody else not surprised?
It seems cremation preserves the elements in bone that show where people lived. Some interesting results from cremated remains at Stonehenge.
Lava lamps are being used as random number generators. Truly random.
Nine-months pregnant women: DO NOT EAT POPPYSEED BAGELS. Or poppyseed anything!
Guess what? Aerosmith wasn’t always famous.
IKEA is open for business in India.
A pottery manufactury dating to Roman/Byzantine times in Israel includes a couple of bathing rooms and a game room. You’d think people needed the occasional break from their jobs.
Alexa is going to college.

I do the occasional survey for the Smithsonian. As a result of this, I was notified of their Free Museum Saturday and invited to apply for a ticket for two to any museum participating that I wanted. My granddaughter and I will be going to the Portland Art Museum on September 22nd.
I doubt there are any specific exhibits either one of us would be enthralled by, but I haven’t been there for a goodly number of years now and I’m not sure she has ever been. I’ve promised to feed her before bringing her home and it will give my daughter a chance to go somewhere with just her son.

The apartment complex I live in has been inspected for functional fire alarms. Mine passed. Of course, the last time the batteries died, I bought lithium batteries that would supposedly last 10 years, and that was several months before last year’s inspection. I think I’m safe for another 8 ½ years.

Have I mentioned lately that I’m getting my money’s worth and more out of my Kindle Unlimited membership? I’ve stumbled across several urban fantasy series lately that I’m having great fun with. And there’s a 5th Fred the Vampire Accountant book out — I’ll buy it as soon as I can, but being able to read it before I have the money to pay for it is a real bonus.

Chiropractic appointment yesterday. I feel good. She says the remodel has been showing discernable progress and they’ve only had two or three meltdowns in the last month. And a couple of my vacation stories made her laugh, so we’re good. Yes, I’m actually friends with my chiropractor — we met from being voice students of the same teacher and liked each other. Then I needed to see a chiropractor, so guess who I thought of.

As I mentioned at the beginning, I paid off my Neptune Society membership last Wednesday. It takes a couple of days for the payment to be verified and deducted from my bank account, so I went to the payment site yesterday to make sure my balance was zero. My balance was -$77.59. I have no clue as to why they would owe me money when the amount I paid was exactly what was listed for the payoff. Not that I object to probably getting some of my money back, mind. But I don’t understand what’s going on with this.
I may confuse their computers, but their computers confuse me, too.
