I am working on a post talking about elections. This obviously is not that post. I did have a question I wanted to pose to DKos readers and members alike, however.
Right now our government across the country is dominated by Republicans. President Trump, Speaker Ryan, Majority Leader McConnell, 34 Republican Governors. 31 states where Republicans have clear control of all state legislative bodies in those states. I don’t have great numbers for local governance, but I imagine it mirrors this state of affairs as well. Not good.
I believe we are all unified in our desire to get rid of Trump. I believe our top priority is getting rid of him at our earliest convenience. But for the purposes of my question, if we could set aside the Trump aspect, and treat everyone like a generic Republican, I think this would be helpful.
The main thing I am trying to get at is right now we are swimming in a sea of red and I want to get a feel for what people think the best way out is.
So what is the question?
Simple, what do you think the priorities should be as a party in order to regain control of the government, at least at some level of parity.
I have a poll below and each set of priorities is listed twice, one option for if you live in a red state (one that voted for the Republican in the 2016 cycle) and a duplicate option but for if you live in a blue state (one that voted for Clinton in the 2016 cycle).
Also, I know our priority is the races this fall, I suppose regard this as if it were the 2020 cycle.
Make sure your response is the answer corresponding to whether you live in a red or blue state!
And if you could rec this diary to increase the number of eyeballs on the poll that would be great. I know this is not the most interesting content at this point, but the results here could help fill out a very interesting diary down the road if enough folks respond.
Please comment on why you made the selection you did as well. I would love to see what people have to say on this topic and I think it could an interesting discussion for the community as a whole.
