Democrats have a 14-point lead for the U.S. House, 52 percent to 38 percent, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll. That’s important news, since Republicans have gerrymandered enough of the country that Democrats are starting out in a hole. Fourteen points, though? That’s good.
The Democratic lead includes a 50 percent to 35 percent lead among independent voters. Donald Trump is a clear factor, with 58 percent of voters saying Congress should act as more of a check on Trump and just 27 percent saying Congress is doing enough to get in his way.
Democrats even lead among men, 48 percent to 42 percent. While white people continue to lean Republican, 48 percent to 45 percent for Democrats, the tight margin has to be scaring Republicans—if they can’t dominate among white people, they’re done.
