September 11 & 12
Pacific Northwest
Fall brings unstable air to the Northwest. Nothing like the East Coast right now of course — take care and be safe all you folks in the path of Florence this week. I hope everyone heeds those evacuation orders. The predicted storm surge and torrential downpours are literally life threatening.
Setember is the transition time for us as the usual persistent high pressure center over the north Pacific Ocean breaks down and systems of variable air begin blowing across the area here. That means the clear warm skies of summer give way to interesting clouds.
These past couple of days have been beautiful for cloud-lovers wherever there’s big sky. I saw these clouds at my local bays on my daily bike ride.
Sept 11 had towering cumulo type clouds but no rain with them.

Yesterday, September 12, fog formed over the Strait and wafted onto land periodically. High clouds provided a counterpoint.

Partly cloudy today and breezy out of the SE today. NWS forecast says
An upper trough will remain over the area through tonight with westerly
flow aloft. At the surface, light pressure gradients will prevail. The air mass is somewhat unstable with low and mid level moisture. bringing a
chance for showers each day and high temps remain confined to thelower 60s along the coast...mid 60s in the interior lowlands.
Haven’t been down to the beach yet to see what the clouds look like in big-sky mode. Can report later about that :)
What’s up in nature in your area today?
