Gabriel Sherman writes in Vanity Fair that Ivanka Trump has told her father to dump Kavanaugh, not that he will follow his daughter’s advice. To my mind the money quote of Sherman’s piece is this:
If Trump antagonizes women voters, it could increase the odds Republicans would lose both houses in Congress. “Trump knows the Senate is not looking good,” an outside adviser said. “It’s all about the impeachment, he knows it’s coming.”
So, at this point we are “led” by a president whose energy and focus is on avoiding impeachment. How well do you think this will turn out?
And this explains why Trump’s tweeting — his political weapon of choice — has been uncharacteristically quiet. Trump now must rely on Republican senators to bail him out. Will these senators all continue to be as cowardly and unpatriotic as they have been so far?
