Former FBI Director James Comey is a weird bird. However, he does know a thing or two about the FBI and how the FBI tries to run their investigations. More importantly, he knows that Bob Mueller is as serious as a heart attack and is apparently immune to the kinds of vanities that Comey himself seems to relish. Comey has been promoting his book, among other things, for the better part of this year, and stopped by St. Louis Public Radio to talk about lots of things with St. Louis On The Air host Don Marsh. Comey discussed the current state of the Mueller investigation into Trump’s campaign and various bad actors, such as Paul Manafort, who recently agreed to a plea deal.
When Marsh asked him where he thinks the Mueller investigation is at currently, Comey said there’s “an argument to be made that the conviction – the plea and cooperation by Paul Manafort – may represent that we’re in the fourth quarter.”
“The way you normally do investigations is you work from the bottom up, and so they're getting pretty high,” he said. “But again, the reason I'm hesitant to even say that is [because] Bob Mueller's conducted his investigation like a pro – you know nothing about it except through his public filings, and that's the way it's supposed to be. And so I can't say with certainty where he is.”
My one solace during Bob Mueller’s long and (mostly) quiet investigation is that the longer it continues, the less Trump and friends actually know, and the more it must drive them insane.
