How do the GOP Judiciary Committee Senators explain their actions to their own children and grandchildren should they vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh? What are boys, including theirs sons, to think if these men don’t do whatever it takes to make sure that every possible measure is exhausted to insure that this is litigated to a satisfactory conclusion. If it can’t be, Kavanaugh will need to be withdrawn. Otherwise men and boys may be left with the understanding that “It’s my word against hers”.
Most of these Senators have large families with sons, daughters and some have grandchildren. How would they feel if their daughter came to them with a similar story of sexual assault? Do the right thing Senators. If not for America, then for people you love.
-Chuck Grassley has two daughters
-Jeff Flake has one daughter
-John Cornyn has two daughters.
-Ben Sasse has two daughters.
-Mike Lee has one daughter
-Ted Cruz has two daughters
-Mike Crapo has three daughters
-Orrin Hatch has three daughters
-Thom Tillis has one daughter
Why can’t they make this connection?
As a psychologist and professor, Dr. Ford might explain it this way. Our assumed social status in relation to others can determine our ability to take the perspective of others in to account. Social science explains that certain people are less likely to have empathy for those who they feel are subordinate to them. People who seek and assume positions of power are less inclined to entertain others ideas, respect their feelings or question their own actions and decisions. Holding a position of power that includes authority over others leads to a form of acquired narcissism that can rob that person of the ability to take on different points of view.
I will post this piece on these Senator’s social media accounts to remind them that
”there by the grace of God go I”. Maybe this will serve to bring it home for them.
