Hello, writers. I find myself once again called out of town, so I must be brief. Hopefully I’ll be able to check in with you this evening.
Although we’re still six weeks out from the start of NaNoWriMo, it’s not too soon to think about what you’re going to do. Any thoughts on projects yet?
Recently someone asked me if they thought their child would like my books. This is a question children’s authors get a lot. It’s always a bit confusing because usually I don’t know the child. I always say yes, of course. But it occurs to me that I don’t really think about children very much when I write my books.
Children’s authors have a dual audience; they have to write a story that will please children and adults, usually at different levels. Of course, there are a lot of children’s books that only succeed in pleasing children, or only succeed in pleasing adults. But for the most part we are better off if we hit both.
Who do you see as your ideal audience?
Tonight’s challenge:
Revise the following passage so that it will appeal to your ideal audience:
Tonight, expect early showers, with temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. Clearing after midnight, with temperatures dropping, and frost possible in the valleys and on the upper hillsides toward morning.
Write On! will be a regular weekly diary (Thurs 8 pm eastern, 5pm pacific) until it isn't.
